This is the personal portfolio of Andrew Rainsberger (Joplin, Missouri, USA). It counts visits so I can see whether people find and read it. It does that without cookies, without ads and without storing your IP address. This page explains exactly what is recorded.
What is recorded when you visit
- Which page you opened, and the name of the website that linked you here (for example linkedin.com), if any.
- How long the page was on screen while you were using it, how far down you scrolled, and which section of the page was on screen.
- Whether you clicked the résumé, LinkedIn or “Send me a message”.
- The kind of device (phone, tablet or computer), and your approximate location (country, region and city) and network name (usually your internet provider). These come from Cloudflare, which works them out from your connection.
Your IP address is never stored. It is turned into a scrambled code together with your browser type and the date, so one visitor counts once a day. A second scrambled code of your network lets me see that someone came back on another day. These codes can’t be turned back into your address, and nothing here is used to find out who you are.
No cookies are set and nothing is saved on your device, except a small note in your browser if you choose to opt out (below). Visit records are deleted automatically after about 13 months. They are not sold, shared or used for advertising, and there are no third-party trackers on this site.
Turning it off
- If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or “Do Not Track”, nothing is recorded at all.
- Or open this link once on each device to leave it out. This link turns counting back on.
Messages you send
If you use “Send me a message”, your name, email address and message are emailed to me so I can reply, and kept in my private message inbox until I delete them. The IP address the message came from is kept for 30 days to stop spam, then removed. I don’t add you to any mailing list or share your message.
Services this site uses
- GitHub Pages hosts the site. Like any web host, GitHub may log visits for security; see the GitHub Privacy Statement.
- Cloudflare runs the small private app that receives the visit counts and messages; see the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- Some pages link to or open other sites (LinkedIn, GitHub, YouTube and project demos). They have their own privacy policies.
Your rights
You can ask what I hold about you, or ask me to delete it, by emailing andrewrainsberger@gmail.com. For messages that is easy to do. Visit counts can’t be linked to a person, so there is usually nothing to find. If you are in the EU or UK, the legal basis for the visit counts is my legitimate interest in running and improving a personal website, you can object at any time with the opt-out above, and you can complain to your data protection authority.
This site is not aimed at children under 13. If this page changes, the date at the top changes too.
